Our Mission
Forming Priests for the Church in Cameroon and Beyond
St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary (STAMS) in Bambui, Bamenda, is the principal theologicum of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. Founded in 1973 under the direction of Bishop Pius Awa and Bishop Paul Verdzekov, STAMS has for over five decades prepared men from five dioceses — and beyond the Republic of Cameroon — for ordination to the priesthood.
Our formation programme integrates human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral dimensions, equipping seminarians to serve with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
As we embark on the 2025–2026 formation year, we extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all our seminarians, faculty, staff, and visitors.
At STAMS, we are dedicated to the formation of future priests who will serve with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Our mission is to nurture each seminarian in their vocation, deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ and preparing them for a life of service to the Church and the world.
We invite you to explore our website and learn more about our programmes, events, and the vibrant community that makes this seminary a very special place.
Formation
The Four Dimensions
Building mature, balanced men of character who can relate with empathy and integrity to all they serve.
Deepening a living relationship with Christ through the liturgy, prayer, and the evangelical counsels.
Rigorous theological and philosophical study rooted in the tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas.
Practical apprenticeship in parish ministry, evangelisation, and care for the sick and marginalised.
O God, Father of All Mercies
O God, Father of all Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest, send Your graces upon those You have called to gather the fruits of Your labor; preserve and strengthen them in their lifelong service of You.
Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern Your Holy Will; inspire in them a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels and Saints, humbly hear our prayers and grant Your Church's needs, through Christ, our Lord.
