O God, Father of all Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest, send Your Graces upon those You have called to gather the fruits of Your labor; preserve and strengthen them in their lifelong service of you. Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern Your Holy Will; inspire in them a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, and Saints, humbly hear our prayers and grant Your Church's needs, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
On December 3, 2022, St Thomas Aquinas’ Major Seminary, Bambui launched the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of its foundation in the presence of all the bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. This meant that St Thomas Aquinas’ Major Seminary has been forming priests for 50years. The celebrations of this great event has been going on for a whole year and will culminate with the peak celebration on Friday, December 1, 2023. This means that this entire Formation Year will still be lived in the spirit of the Jubilee Year and therefore in continuous thanksgiving to God for the great things that the Lord has done (cf. Luke 1: 49). On the other hand, the Seminary community will continue to pray to be enabled by the One who calls to live lives worthy of the calling they have received: “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Eph. 4:1).
The formation work done here is done with the firm conviction and a conscious awareness that theological studies mark a very significant and indispensable stage of the initial formation of candidates for the priesthood. This is also known as the configuration stage ( configuration of the candidate to the person of Jesus Christ, Shepherd and Servant)( Cf. Congregation for the Clergy, The Gift of Priestly Vocation Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis, 2016, n. 68). There is, however, no doubt that the actual configuration of the candidate to the person of Jesus Christ takes place at the reception of the sacrament of Holy Orders but the period of theological studies is a necessary preparation for the actual concretisation at the ordination of the candidate. The programme of formation is designed in such a way as to assist the candidate to deepen his knowledge of the Son of God by developing a closer relationship with Him whom he will soon represent (ibid).
Thank you, as always, for your continued prayers and support.
